The following is the selection process for the annual Super Lawyers list:
Nominations – Each candidate is formally nominated by attorneys from other firms or lawyers from their own firm, as well as Super Lawyers’ research staff, clients, readers, marketing directors, and other attorneys who are not eligible for formal nominations.
Independent research – The research department evaluates each candidate based on 12 indicators of professional achievement and peer recognition: verdicts/settlements, honors/awards, experience, representative clients, position within the firm, education/employment background, special licenses/certifications, pro bono and community service, bar and/or professional activity, transactions, and other outstanding achievements.
Peer evaluation – Candidates in each practice area with the highest point totals from the first and second steps to serve on the “blue ribbon review” and are responsible for reviewing candidates from their practice areas.
Final selection – Lawyers with the highest totals from each firm-size category are selected to the Super Lawyers list. Only five percent of all attorneys are chosen.
Attorney Self is a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law by the North Carolina State Bar Board of Legal Specialization since 2013. He is also a Certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission since 2018.
David has also been selected to the 28th edition of The Best Lawyers in America® in 2021. He has also earned the 10 Best Client Satisfaction award and 10 Best Law Firms award by the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys in 2018.
